Forklift Part
If you already own one or more forklifts for operation in your business, you know that waiting to track down that elusive forklift part can be a huge expense for your business. Not having parts for repairs or maintenance means down time--and down time means a loss of money and resources.
If you're shopping for a new supplier to do business with, there are a number of things to consider. And for those of you buying a forklift for the first time, listen up! You can learn about the importance of parts availability before your forklift purchase, and avoid making the mistakes that other businesses have.
First of all, what types of forklift parts will you need? Make sure you're familiar with the specifications on your particular models. You might need any of the following parts, either in the future or in a hurry!
* Batteries * Engine parts * Forks * Brake drums * Brake shoes * Transmission parts * Electrical components * Seats * Drive systems * Exhaust systems * Air, oil, and transmission filters * Fuel system parts * Hydraulic components * Mast rollers and bearings * Cables * Cab enclosures * Safety accessories
If you have your own on-site mechanics, it's a good idea to keep many of these parts on hand at your facility, rather than waiting to get them from your supplier. After all, even those that offer 24-hour service on emergency parts will only be able to get them to you by tomorrow. And your customers might not be able to wait until then.
It's a good idea to find out what inventory your supplier keeps on hand, and if they stock supplies for your forklift model every day. The best suppliers keep track of their customers' equipment needs, so they are aware of the types and brands of parts they should keep in stock. Even if they are the same company that does your repairs, they may not have a sufficient supply of parts--which means your forklift is sitting while you wait for the parts and repair.
If you don't have a regular supplier, there are also a number of companies online that offer ongoing and emergency supply for forklift parts. You can generally search by the type of part, by brand, and can often see the availability before you place an order.
