Jib Cranes
Are you looking for a crane for your business, but aren't sure about what kinds are out there? The jib crane is a type used in a variety of different materials moving jobs, either as a standalone solution for a specific work area, or as an "assistant" to a larger crane such as a bridge crane.
You've seen variations of the jib crane everywhere, and they truly vary in size, function, and price. Jib cranes use a horizontal arm, known as a jib, which is fastened to a column, to move loads horizontally. Most jib cranes also swivel, so that they are able to pick up loads in all or part of the circle around them.
That's the simplified version of the physics of how a jib crane works. When you start shopping for jib cranes, you'll find that there are many different kinds, designed to do specific jobs. Of those, there are two basic types, floor and wall mounted. Also, floor and wall mounted jib cranes each have two different variations.
Wall mounted jib crane (Wall bracket): The most economical jib crane, this style uses a tie rod to raise and lower the loads. It can be used for a number of jobs, as long as headroom isn't a factor and you don't need complete 360-degree rotation.
Wall mounted jib crane (Cantilever style): A "cantilever," by definition, is a structural element supported at only one end. This only means that, like the wall bracket style, the free end is where the load is attached and lifted. The cantilever jib crane is attached to a building column, putting the jib up higher and allowing for more headroom than the wall bracket style.
Floor mounted jib crane (Freestanding): More expensive than a wall mounted jib crane, the freestanding jib is a versatile piece of equipment. Since the freestanding jib isn't attached to a wall, it can rotate a complete 360 degrees if you need it to. Instead, it is mounted to the floor on a solid concrete mounting pad.
Floor mounted jib crane (Mast-style): Like the freestanding jib crane, the mast style jib crane rotates 360 degrees and is attached to the floor. In addition, it is attached to the ceiling of the building for added stability without needing such a large concrete pad.
